So ... I'd meant to include this in yesterday's post. Sorry.
I've been trying new recipes and new ideas and cooking in different ways. Kiddo loves watching the Food Network, and hubby loves it when I make something I've seen there, or figure out my own version of something. And in so doing, I've learned this:
The more FLAVOR food has, the less food I need to get satisfied. For instance, I made lean pork chops last night, but instead of just grilling or frying them, I seasoned them, seared them, piled mushrooms in around them, topped them with garlic/basil pesto, and baked them for 20 minutes or so. They were tender, juicy, ... and full of flavor. So delish, but I only ate about two-thirds of mine. Hubby only ate one. Kiddo ate the remainder of mine (she doesn't eat much meat usually, but did like that.
It doesn't have to be fatty or creamy or salty ... just ... flavorful. Herbs are so great for adding flavor and changing things up ... anyway. There's my rambling.

VERY true. And the more flavor you can add with healthy things like herbs the less you need fat and sugar to add the flavor. PLUS some herbs (I am a believer, anyway) have other health benefits!
That is one thing I LOVE about living with The Roomie. She is vegetarian and a dedicated herbalist. I'm not veg, but she has GREAT ideas on flavor. PLUS she is green thumb extrordinaire and we grow our OWN herbs which, I swear, taste TONS better than the dried kind you buy in the spice aisle.
(by the way, if anyone needs fresh mint we have FOUR VARIETIES that grow like weeds so most gets wasted.)
i like mint. what about basil? i like it too. i need to start growing my own weed ... er, herbs again.
weed... wasted... hee hee hee!
Okay, no, seriously, we may have Basil, too. I'll ask The Roomie.
