Yes, you can lose weight while at the MTC! I did. I had therapy yesterday and we talked about how there are so many differing opinions of what should be done for weight loss. I kinda-sorta made the re-discovery that the concept that I applied to myself while I spent eight weeks in the MTC worked (only I hadn't realized it yesterday in therapy). I literally dropped 20 pounds while I was there. Last night as I was pondering how I could lose weight fast. . .well, safe "fast". . .I was thinking about biggest loser and how I would literally have to quit my job or something to be on it (NOT an option). I realized that I lost an amazing amount of weight (in my opinion) in eight weeks. By the time I left the MTC I was using pins to help hold my skirts up, lovely pleats in the back that weren't sewn in. :)
What I actually did:
1. I had dessert once a day. . . it seemed like they had something sweet a every meal (no wonder why so many missionaries gain weight in the MTC!).
2. Had a sensible breakfast. . .Usually a grapefruit half, a bagel (with cream cheese), milk, fruit, and maybe boiled eggs. . .if they were totally cooked. . .bad experience there.
3. Lunch and dinner I rotated between salads and the entrees that were available.
4. Played volleyball for at gym time. . .if i remember right gym was an hour long. . .
My theory:
If I exercise for an hour a day. . .split up 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. . .It could be anything from yoga to hiking. . .JUST MOVE!!!. . .and skip out on the desserts. . .or have just one small yummy something with sugar, and no snacking. . .and have sensible meals paying attention to satiation. I could be a biggest loser contestant on my very own personal biggest loser show starring me! I'm pretty sure that if I move more I can drop some of the excess weight I have been carrying around.
You know what is so great about it? I started the food thing today. It sure makes you think about what you choose for your sweet treat when you look at it that way. I have been offered brownies and doughnuts today. . .the brownies were sodex-ho. . .yucky cafeteria food. . .and doughnuts from smiths. . .not things I want for my treat. If I have a treat. . .

I like your choosiness for your treat. The examples...yeah...not what I would want too if I was limiting myself.
